The "Oued Zem" rug is named after the village where I found this beauty.
To start off the process of making this rug, shepherding is done by men in the atlas mountains were the sheep are sheared and wool is of the highest quality. It is washed with the famous beldi soap and hand spun into different thicknesses ready to be knotted into Beni Ourain rugs. The ladies of Oued Zem have spent four weeks making this rug by hand. They hold the secrets to weaving the Beni Ourain rugs, an ancient process of knotting wool , well known for their distictive style and durability .
